Dry run
Happy to report back. I'm glad to say that development of the game is going really well. No thanks to me unfortunately. While I keep being preoccupied with the usual salary man hurdles the rest of the team keeps pulling off impressive assets in the art and sound department. Indie game development is not that hard once you get over the actual sitting down and doing shit part, unless that is being prevented by other entanglements. To keep quoting the great forum posters of our time: "There are too many dreamers, talkers and "thinkers" ". When it comes to developing a game, a lot of people talk big. Very little have something to show for it. Most don't even get past the actual initial project setup. I'm glad that we're well past beyond that point. The next challenges are the many stopgaps where we get to learn to do new things as we implement the various features that make up the game. These will be mere learning experiences that will come in succession. As development ramps up, time increasingly becomes a luxury. It is important to not loose momentum past a certain point or the project risks abandonment. I don't think this will happen unless something very dramatic life altering event happens but I certainly need to dust off the IDE again.
There is always something to do and the administrative side of projects always takes some precedence. Things like version control, project configuration and life cycle management are things that keep a project healthy and stable. These I always keep in check, as the foundation of any project is just as important as the creativity that it will bring about.
Of the many mundane distractions that have kept boredom in check I can go over a laundry list of things. Mass Effect 3 was promptly finished but this will be undone by the impending release of The Real Ending™ and I plan to be ready with a Jane Sheppard run that is currently solving the conflict between the Quarians and Geth. I kept pulverizing and snorting various Mario games for the 3DS and after finishing everything with sweet perfection the cravings haven't stopped. I look forward for the next Mario game in August. Between obsessing with the Megadrive audio chip and amassing its game collection there have been enough distractions to continue to keep this one busy for five lifetimes. I'm off to write some code before another shiny object shows up.
